Things have been INSANE lately (as I alluded to yesterday)! Last Friday (April 10th) I was still on spring break. Gavin woke me up and we were watching cartoons. He wanted to get something from the basement. I told him to go on down and come right back up. He waited and pleaded for me to go with him...stating there is something "gray" on the carpet. I told him it must be a shadow...just go and come right back. So after several minutes he goes. He comes back and says, "mommy my socks are all wet!" Ding ding the "Oh Shit-a-meter" goes off in my head and I jump out of bed as quick as a 7 month pregnant person can jump. Run to the stairs and yep my worst fears are realized. The whole basement is soaked! The carpet sloshes when you walk on it. I open the door to the storage area and there is an inch of standing water. Everything in the that room is soaked...boxes full of photos, baby gear and clothes, x-mas decorations, and random things to sell in garage sales. It was horrible. I try to remain calm. Run up the stairs...remember I am huge and running is more like a brisk walk. Grab the phone. Call Jon. Of course, NO ANSWER! Damn his job. So who is my go to in times like this...MY DAD! He is my hero! SERIOUSLY! Call him...he never fails to answer. He tells me to check the sump pump. Go down touch it and boom it starts running. The water begins to recede. Dad tells me to call a rental store and get a carpet extractor and carpet fans. We have a long day ahead.
We (Jon, Dad, Me, and Gavin) spend the rest of the day soaking up the water. Jon and I rise the next day to finish up and head up to take the P's out for their 30th wedding anniversary. It seems as if the carpet is dry. Just a little damp. We put the fan on it and then get several more and run them until we return on Sunday.
As far as the anniversary celebration goes...we went to dinner at Maldaner's and hit the comedy show. Mom and dad were surprised and had a great time. Can you believe that 30 years has gone by and they seem happier now than I have ever seen them. I just hope that Jon and I can have the kind of marriage that they have!
We return, after a trip to the Cardinals game, and we walk in and our entire house reeks like mildew!! GROSS! Obviously, something has gone terribly wrong. We put plastic up to keep the smell downstairs and then figure out a plan the next day. We have Serv-Pro come out. Almost 2500 dollars for clean-up! NO WAY! So we pull out all the pad, the carpet in the two bedrooms, and rip all of the baseboards out. We get a dehumidifier and run it all weekend. We come home yesterday to a non-stinky and dry house. Only problem...we have shit everywhere, no baseboards, and no carpeting. So that is the point we are at now. We will get it figured out soon! One step at a time. SOMETIMES BEING A HOMEOWNER BLOWS!
As far as my big 2-9 birthday. It went well. Jon and Gavin got me a fabulous new Coach purse. Mom and dad are helping me get a new breast pump! Super pumped about that (no pun intended). I spent the day with my dear friend Trin and her family and then went to Steph's rehearsal dinner. It was fun. Couldn't ask for more. Next year is a big step! I am kind of dreading it. We will see how it goes! I may be 2-9 for the rest of my life!!
