eight years ago I woke up to a frantic phone call from a friend. Josh said, "TURN ON THE TV!!" I turned it on and couldn't believe my eyes. The World Trade Center has been hit, the Pentagon too! Is this really happening. I called out frantically to Jon. In those days we were carefree college students. We were sleeping in as we normally did. We didn't have class until after noon. We both worked jobs that we would work until well after midnight most nights. So being woken up at 9 am by a frantic friend was alarming enough. Jon came out...in a daze. We watched for hours the horror of the day unfold. As I got ready for class, we received word that some classes were cancelled. I went to mine. We sat idly in the classroom...discussing who had done such a horrible thing, why, for what? How many people did this great nation lose? We tried to purchase a flag...no where in town were they available! I watched the TV for weeks on end. It was a daze. I remember the families. The mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters that wouldn't return home that day. Every year I try to focus on my brothers birthday which happens to be today, but it has never been the same. My poor brother...he lives with the memory of his sad and horrible 20th birthday every year. So to celebrate those who lost thier lives today, eight years ago, I pray.
To Michael....happy birthday! I love you. Enjoy your day.
